This just screams out why you must have an attorney look over any contract you may have before you sign it. There are so many landmines hidden in the tiny print of these recording contracts that you are just waiting to blow up if you sign it without understanding what exactly you are signing. For instance, how are your publishing rights to be split up? What controls the recording budget? What happens if your music is not released – can you get it back? What can you do if they wont release your cd? I could go on and on but I hope you get the point. After 18 years of reading music industry contracts, I’ve seen it all!
Unless you just want to be a “starving” artist and give away your music for the betterment of mankind, you better have your contracts reviewed before you sign them.
